Mold and Ants and Wasps, Oh My!

Running water had so far been unavailable in the house, because although it was on at the main valve, our kitchen sink leaked (sort of like Old Faithful leaks) when the water was turned on. That made for some interesting times when we and all our faithful friends who helped us move needed to use the bathroom. We do have some very lovely trees out in the woods behind our house! (Actually, they're covered in poison ivy. Don't think about it too much).

So fixing the sink was definitely high on the list of things to do. My wonderful hubby and our friend Phil (a reoccurring hero in this adventure) had to demo that half of the kitchen to get to it. I don't think the drywall was black when it was first installed.

Before:

Not to be outdone, the insulation upstairs offered up some lovely surprises (well, we weren't really all that surprised):

It wasn't only mold though... when we had first moved in we had noticed 80 bazillion of those little teeny ants crawling all over the stoop and around the front door...

So when Jack pulled away the drywall around the inside of the master bedroom (right above the front door) these little guys were not unexpected:

And just to top it off, we had these in the eves too:

(Isn't God's creation awesome?) (Although I appreciate it more out in actual creation than inside our house.)

Jack also found a bird in the insulation, but we didn't get a picture, plus I can only use three things in the title to make it work.

I promise, it will get better than this. Stick with us, and the good stuff starts coming soon! It's gotta get worse before it gets better. :)

Cost:
good hard work, and hopefully no permanent damage to our lungs: $0

  1. "Reoccurring"? "Eves"? (Okay, I had to point those out because I am your [homeschooling] mother. Actually reoccur is a word, but recur sounds oh so much better. :-D)
You guys are my heroes. I love your unflagging enthusiasm. And yes, bee homes are amazing and fascinating. Best out of doors, though, as you said. Can't wait to come and help.... try to have all the wildlife 86ed by the time I get there, huh? Love you guys!!!
