So most folks would finish the house before moving in, based on the very solid notion that belongings and demolition dust should not mix. This is true, but the fact that our closing had been delayed 47 days meant that we didn't have much choice. We had found ourselves replacements for our apartment, and we had originally told them they could move in mid-April (based on our originally scheduled closing date). They had been extremely kind and gracious about the repeated delays, but they were losing their own apartment and had already been living with friends for a week. We had to move out on May 22, the same day they were moving in. We had a nice subfloor in the new house to put our stuff on though, so we were pretty confident we could make it work. A good friend of ours had offered for us to sleep at her house, where we have our nice little suite complete with bathroom; our oasis of calm at the end of each dusty sweaty day. There is no way this would all work without this family. Thank you a million times, Berneros! :)
So, starting at 6:30 on Saturday morning, we began the move. We've been collecting stuff (building material, appliances, furniture, etc.) for the new house from craigslist for months, (you'll meet much of what we've collected in later posts) so this was no easy move. But we have the very best friends in the world, and it went very well. Thank you SO much, Li'l J, Phil, Dan, Stephen, Amy, Laura, Caleigh, Jimmy, Peter, Paul, Kevin! Not to mention Mom (Patty), who not only helped move stuff but also made lunch for everyone. You guys were amazing! And thank you again Andrew and Gia for your patience in moving in; we hope you love the apartment as much as we did! :)
