We open this first post with a riddle:
Question: What's peach on the outside, 27 different colors (all horrible) on the inside, and mold-infested all over?
Answer: OUR NEW HOUSE!!! :D
Yes, we are very excited and grateful actual homeowners. It was a bit of a trip getting here, and we are now much more educated as to the bureaucracy of the mortgage world (and much more incredulous that nobody has done anything about it). But, despite all the you've-gotta-be-kidding-me moments, God has faithfully brought us here, and we signed the all-important papers (okay, three were all-important, the other 172 just restated what the first three said) on Thursday, May 20. Only 47 days after our originally scheduled closing date. But honestly, while the wait was sometime infuriating, we are actually really grateful for the timing in many ways -- it coincided nicely with Jack's finishing school, and so a brand-new chapter of our lives is opening. One involving things that our lives hadn't previously encountered much, such as mold and ant infestations. It's lots of fun. :)
I'll do a bit of catching up over the next few days to bring the blog up to speed -- normally we'll post on each segment or project, but these few days have been a whirlwind. So for now, this is just to introduce our new house.
By the way, we've yet to name it... if anybody would like to comment with suggestions, we're open! But we would like our home's name to be something reminiscent of what it will be like, not what monikers it invokes now. In other words, we've already considered and vetoed "The Dump." :)
