It's Electric! -- The Final Chapter

It's seemed at times that the electrical work would never end. We are happy to announce that is now has! It's really and truly completed. It took us almost two full days to wrap it up, spanning a few different tasks.

First, we had to trace every single circuit in the house, and identify the wiring pattern for every single fixture. This is because so much of the wiring had been done so badly that we couldn't trust it, and we needed to know everything to make sure we addressed all problems. We made it fun, like two Private Eyes, using deductive reasoning skills, our Klein wire tester, and our five senses. (Okay, I guess only 3 - we didn't taste the wires, and thankfully our sense of smell wasn't needed - we didn't burn anything down!). I was the designated diagrammer.

What a feeling of accomplishment when that was done!

Also, Jack had to fix all the funky wiring in the basement. Our storage room, which is also the furnace room, had been the laundry room, and had been a kitchenette, had a low drywall ceiling which had been water damaged. When we took it down, we found vestiges of the former drop ceiling, included twisted rusty metal and old light fixtures -- one still connected -- which had just been stuck up there.

Jack got that all fixed up and up to code.

Then we had to finish everything in the breaker box, rewiring and finalizing the circuits.

Before:

After:

Then finally we finished up all the little things to get ready for the inspection.

And the culmination of all this hard work: thank the Lord, we passed the inspection!!! :)

  2. Oh, that breaker box is a thing of beauty!! Your wonderful husband reminds me of another wonderful breaker-box-fixing husband I know. :-) So glad and grateful that the inspection is behind you now! Praise God!
