More Kitchen Progress

We left off with a new window installation and drywall on which I'd done one coat of primer. Since this is our last week before school starts (and before we move in) we have been trying to push hard to get lots done per day, especially with drying times taken into account. The next big step was to get everything second-coated with primer, and get the window casing in and caulked. I've been sick this week and was once again unable to push past 10 pm. (I'm totally a morning person, Jack is totally the opposite. He take a while to get going in the morning but is a champion late at night, whereas I turn into a pumpkin when it gets dark. I'm my Daddy's kid.) So, enter the amazing Kevin & Li'l J again. The boys worked until 1 am (not quite an all-nighter this time) and got everything ready for color in the morning.

And... we can add color! We continued the two-tone browns through the one wall, because there is no good place to transition to another color, and this makes the hallway continuity flow nicely. But for the rest of the kitchen we wanted a bolder color; we can get away with it because so much of the wall in a kitchen is covered. We had a color we were shooting for and just had a bunch of choices from the dump that were in the right neighborhood. We just planned to mix them and hope for the best. It turned out pretty much exactly what we'd been shooting for. God is so kind!

My hubby's handiwork with the new frame:

This window sill was a little deeper than the upstairs ones, and the normal casing apron below it wasn't quite enough to support it. So Jack improvised by using both baseboard and casing for the apron, and it ended up looking really sweet.

He even made a special extra trim piece for between the two windows. The old ones had a plastic piece; this is much nicer looking.

And to celebrate all this progress, we figured now that we'd mixed all the key colors for the entire house, we could probably stand to return some paint to the dump, before even the world's most lenient HOA gets fed up.

Cost:
primer: free
